Project Animal joins Humane Society of Puerto Rico for its spay/neuter day in the mountain town of Aguas Buenas.
As we enter our third year, Project Animal looks forward to a breakthrough year in animal welfare. During our first two years we established relationships with many of Puerto Rico’s animal welfare organizations: from a single person feeding a colony of dogs in a shopping plaza, to government protection agencies. These are the people who will be leading the path to stop the proliferation of over 150,000 orphaned and abandoned dogs and cats that roam the island, pioneering an island-wide spay/neuter program to control the overpopulation leading to starvation, abuse and disease. Project Animal has also formed alliances with well-respected, high-profile veterinarians who are part of the solution.
We are very proud to report that in 2011 Project Animal Worldwide supported the spaying and neutering of 119 owned dogs and cats in Puerto Rico. In addition, for the animals who were not fortunate enough to have a home, Project Animal transported 57 “sato” dogs and 1 “gato” (cat) from Puerto Rico to New Jersey for adoption through our shelter adoptions partners: the Monmouth County SPCA and Wag On Inn Rescue.
For this New Year, our hopes and expectations are high. In 2012 Project Animal will support the spay and neuter of a minimum of 250 dogs and cats in Puerto Rico. We will be able to accomplish this only through your participation and support. You have made possible the groundwork we achieved over the last two years, and it is only with your continued help will we be able to achieve our goals.
This is a very exciting year for us and we will be sharing it with all our supporters. This year will bring the debut of our new blog that will communicate our initiatives and progress, news from Puerto Rico, plus various animal-related topics and advice, such as TNR lessons from Project Animal’s Vice-President Francesca Alexander, an expert in trap-neuter-release. We will include your stories and questions as well.
And last, but certainly not least, we hope that 2012 will see the release of our documentary, “Beyond Dead Dog Beach.” More about that soon. For now, Project Animal Worldwide wishes all of our friends a wonderful, safe, healthy and happy 2012!

"The McKee Project is transforming animal welfare in Costa Rica. Companion animal status in this Central American country is elevated amid an area of the world where 99 percent euthanasia rates are not uncommon. They are hoping to spread the success to every Latin American and Caribbean town to help the overpopulation of unwanted and abandoned dogs and cats."
Animal advocate and co-founder of All Sato Rescue in Puerto Rico, Twig Mowatt, writes about the McKee Project in this month's issue of Bark Magazine. It is our hope to incorporate this successful model in Puerto Rico.
PAW's mission is to develop spay/neuter programs, assist in animal rescue and implement humane education in
areas of the world where the homeless dog and cat population is unmanageable.
